Unveiling 'King's Daughters': A Historical Horror with Sandrine Bonnaire (2026)

WTFilms has acquired the worldwide rights to Pascal Plante's upcoming historical survival drama, 'King's Daughters'. The film, set in 1663, tells the story of a cursed transatlantic voyage of the first group of orphan virgins sent by King Louis XIV to be married off in his faltering colony of New-France (now Quebec).

The cast includes Sandrine Bonnaire, Laurie Babin, Lauréna Thellier, Zoé Adjani, and newcomer Marguerite Champoux. This marks a significant departure from Plante's previous works, which have primarily been cyber-thriller, punk rom-com, and sports drama genres. The film's unique blend of historical drama and folk-horror elements is sure to captivate audiences.

The film's production is a collaborative effort, with Dominique Dussault from Nemesis Films, Stephanie Morissette from La Maison de Prod, and Caroline Bonmarchand from Avenue B. Dussault, Morissette, and Bonmarchand are proud to be part of the current wave of change, bringing greater attention to women's contributions to history. The themes of female solidarity, survival, oppression, and resilience in 'King's Daughters' will resonate deeply with contemporary audiences.

Principal photography began in Montreal, Canada, in March and will resume in St-Malo, France, in June. The film is set to be released in 2027. Plante expressed his excitement about the collaboration with WTFilms, praising their genre-bending and eclectic catalog. Dussault, Morissette, and Bonmarchand also shared their enthusiasm, highlighting the film's potential to offer a glimpse into the origins of sisterhood.

'King's Daughters' has already been sold in France to Tandem and in Canada to Entract, indicating its potential for international success. The film's unique blend of historical drama and folk-horror elements, combined with its strong female-led cast and production team, makes it a highly anticipated release.
